The Center for Spine and Orthopedics’ Dr. Michael Janssen recently traveled to China for a whirlwind trip, stopping at 5 hospitals in 5 days! The International AO Foundation sponsored the 5–day event, which was a follow–up to a visit Dr. Janssen made back in 2004.
During his trip, Dr. Janssen spoke at the Scientific Forum of Spine Capital Medical University to the Academic Department of Orthopedic Surgery of CMMU. The event took place at Xuanwu Hospital, where Dr. Janssen spoke on topics of new progress and developments in spine surgery, and Professor Shibao Lu reviewed the 11 year minimum follow–up of the Charlie III lumbar disc replacement for the treatment of symptomatic degenerative disc disease.
Dr. Cai Siyi, a fellow at Pekin Union Medical College Hospital in Beijing, China sent the following to Dr. Janssen after the event.
Dear Dr. Michael Janssen
I am Dr. Cai Siyi, a fellow in PUMCH orthopedic department now. I am focusing on spinal disorders.
It was a great honor to learn from you in China, and your presentation was really impressive. I learned a lot on your topics.
I hope to visit your center in future to learn spine surgery skills and do some clinical research, and learn how to make beer. I plan to apply for the AO SPINE Fellowship program soon, and wish to get your recommendation and help.
There are some photos of your trip in our center and my resume in the attachments. I will collect some other photos from my colleagues and send to you later.
Thanks for your attention to this matter. Best wishes! Looking forward to seeing you!
