Kansas City University third-year medical student Spencer Cahalan presents on “Bioethics in a Pain Patient” to clinicians and staff at the Center of Spine and Orthopedics (CSO) on May 16, 2019. Spencer will complete the final day of his month-long rotation with CSO pain management specialist Dr. Paul Leo on May 17, 2019. This was his second rotation at CSO. In January and February of this year, he completed his first rotation with orthopedic surgeons Dr. Chris Isaacs and Dr. Luke Schnell. He returned in April due to his interest in pain management. Dr. Leo thanked Spencer for his time with the practice, saying, “Spencer is more like a resident than a medical student. He is very bright, and it was a pleasure to work with him.” During Spencer’s rotation, his wife gave birth to the couple’s first son. In his spare time, Spencer volunteers for AMA Volunteer Opportunities, working with the under-privileged, and CHAMPS Club, helping kids make better choices for their health.
