We offer a variety of non-surgical treatment options.

Our goal is relieve your pain and restore function

Chronic Pain Can Be Unbearable

Chronic pain can make life difficult or even unbearable at times. Our goal at the Center for Spine & Orthopedics is to relieve your pain and restore function so that you can return to work and the activities you enjoy most as quickly as possible.

We recognize that up to 80 percent of the time, functional restoration can be achieved without surgery. That is why we usually recommend that patients begin with conservative treatment to manage their pain. Our physiatrists offer a variety of physical medicine and rehabilitation options, including ultrasound-guided injections, orthobiologics, nerve block and acupuncture.

Non-operative techniques

Conditions

Non-operative physiatry techniques can be used to relieve chronic pain, including back, leg or arm pain associated with numerous conditions or diseases, including degenerative spine disease, herniated disk, sacroiliac joint dysfunction and knee osteoarthritis, among others.

From physical therapy and home exercises to regenerative medicine, Denver-based Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist, Dr. George Leimbach, uses multiple forms of non-operative medicine to maximize patients’ quality of life.

With all the popular press around PRP and Stem Cell injections today, Dr. Leimbach mentions it takes a careful selection process to know if they will truly be beneficial for an individual. “We’re getting excellent results with PRP and stem cell injections now,” says Dr. Leimbach. “An accurate diagnosis and a careful selection process is the key to successful treatment.

One unique thing about the Center for Spine and Orthopedics is that we have a great relationship and close collaboration between non-surgeons, physiatrists like myself, and the surgeons, spine, general orthopedists, and podiatry so we choose the most appropriate care for the patient and truly improve the patient's life.

Colorado residents enjoy being outdoors and pursuing an active lifestyle and that's what the Center for Spine and Orthopedics is all about, improving the patients quality of life. To do this, Dr. Leimbach says, "We deploy all kinds of interventions like physical therapy and at home exercise programs but sometimes we do need to intervene with injections and are seeing great results with PRP and Stem Cell injections. One of the most important things is to come up with is an accurate diagnosis."

Dr. Leimbach also discusses one of his favorite tools in his specialty to help diagnose pain, "One of the tools I specialize in is electro-diagnostic medicine, also known as nerve conduction study or EMG studies, so we can diagnose nerve conditions to get an accurate diagnosis and see what the most appropriate treatment would be."

00:05 "Patients want to be heard and listened to."

00:22 "Ongoing pain - it's hard to function or enjoy life but we give them tools to get them back to enjoying their life the best they can again."

00:28 "I'm a physical medicine rehabilitation physician or also known as a physiatrist."

.... Well, I mean, I think that for me, doing chronic pain, most of the people I've seen, I've seen 10 to 15 doctors already. I'm Paul Leo. I am a physician at the center for spine and orthopedics. I am an anesthesiologist trained in pain management and regenerative medicine.

I had one patient who recently, young woman who's in vet school who came in and she's been told all her life, she has fibromyalgia and literally walking out the door, she did something totally wacky with the joints of her hands and her fingers, looked like she just slammed her hand in a car door. And I was like, Oh God, stop that. She goes, that doesn't hurt. I can do that all the time. And so her diagnosis went from fibromyalgia to Ehler-Danlos syndrome.

She went home and looked it up and realized that that's what she and her mother both have and it explains all kinds of things that had been going on with her. But if I hadn't taken an hour and 15 minutes and had one patient storm out because that I made them wait, I would never have come up with that. And you know the person who left, when I see them, I spend the time I need to with them.

For me to look at someone, listen to what they have to say, listen to what's been done, diagnose the problem and come up with, gosh, no one's ever said that before, or no one's ever thought of that before, or why didn't my doctors five years ago think of that?

The only way to take care of these people is to spend the time to listen to what they have to say. You listen to people, you put the pieces together and then you try to find the answer and then it turns into Sherlock Holmes. That's really what this is all about. If you're going to find a way to help someone you gotta get the right diagnosis before you apply the treatment....
