The Center for Spine and Orthopedics’ Dr. Michael Janssen recently traveled to China for a whirlwind trip, stopping at 5 hospitals in 5 days! The International AO Foundation sponsored the 5–day event, which was a follow–up to a visit Dr. Janssen made back in 2004.
The sacroiliac (SI) joint can be a source of back pain for many patients. The joint is composed of the sacrum (bottom portion of the spine) and the iliac crest (part of your pelvis). The joint does not have a broad range of motion like other joints in the body.
On the January 9, Dr. Janssen and Dr. Bran traveled back to Guatemala for a week of surgery, Country Council Meetings, and an AOSpine Advanced Seminar. The two surgeons also visited three local hospitals to educate the local surgeons and join them in surgery to help them with surgical techniques.
Each year, Becker’s Spine Review publishes a list of Spine Surgeons to Know. The 2016 edition was recently released, and the Center for Spine and Orthopedic’s own Dr. Michael Janssen was included on the list!
